Experienced High School or Transfer Students

The recent success of Cal Poly Lacrosse has been propelled by the explosion of youth lacrosse in San Diego and the Bay Area, and the subsequent enrollment of experienced lacrosse players from those areas. We continue to have a large percentage of San Diego and Bay Area players, but our team also has players from around the state and nation. In the past few years, our roster has included experienced players from Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Maryland, Utah, and Washington. We always welcome the addition of experienced players to our Cal Poly Lacrosse squad. The combination of the university’s academic reputation and lively social scene, San Luis Obispo’s incredible natural surroundings, and the nationally ranked lacrosse program, make Cal Poly a great place to pursue your college degree.

One of the consequences of Cal Poly’s outstanding academic reputation is that it has become increasingly difficult to gain acceptance to the university. If you are interested in attending Cal Poly, begin planning as early as possible and consult the official university website for admissions procedures. Since we are not considered a varsity athletic program by the university, the Cal Poly Lacrosse Team cannot offer scholarships or make admissions decisions. However, we will gladly assist you if you have questions about the admissions process, and can offer recommendations for potential recruits, which may help gain acceptance into the university.

We are often asked if we have tryouts for the lacrosse team. Although our team has grown over the years, we are still at a manageable level and feel that the more quality players we have the stronger our program will become. Therefore, we do not cut people who want to play for Cal Poly Lacrosse. However, every player that joins the team is expected to show a high level of commitment and dedication, and unexcused absences from practices and other team events will not be tolerated. In addition, simply being a member of the team does not guarantee you playing time. All positions will be awarded to those who are most deserving, and playing time will be well earned through a combination of ability, understanding, and commitment to the team.
