Marc Lea

Head Coach

During the 2010 season, Marc Lea reached a number of significant milestones in his coaching career. In his tenth season at the helm of the Mustangs, Coach Lea led Cal Poly to their second consecutive league title, earning his 100th career victory in the WCLL Championship game. The Mustangs also earned their 6th trip to the MCLA National Tournament, including a trip in each of Coach Lea’s previous five seasons. The successful 2010 season culminated in Coach Lea being named the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League’s Coach of the Year.

As the team gears up for the 2012 season, Coach Lea is ready to embark upon an even more successful era of Cal Poly Lacrosse. With an extremely talented and experienced squad returning, the Mustangs are aiming for their fourth straight WCLL championship and have their sights set on rising higher on the national stage. With an MCLA National Championship as the ultimate goal, Coach Lea and the Mustangs will be striving for the best finish in team history.

Over the course of his eleven years as the head coach, Lea has compiled a 114 - 61 record and helped guide the Mustangs from a scrappy lower division club into a perennial player on the MCLA national stage. His success and dedication to the game have not gone unnoticed, and Coach Lea was named the WCLL Coach of the Year in both 2001 and again in 2010.

Coach Lea has been involved with Cal Poly Lacrosse and the WCLL for over two decades, and has witnessed the continued development of lacrosse at this university and all across the West Coast. He is dedicated to establishing Cal Poly as one of the premier “virtual varsity” lacrosse teams in the nation, while maintaining an atmosphere that encourages as many people as possible to learn and enjoy the game.

Marc is a Cal Poly alumni (Ecological Biology graduate, '93), and played on the Mustangs’ squad from 1989 - 1993. Away from the sidelines, Coach Lea works as a biologist specializing in invasive plant management and native habitat restoration. He lives in San Luis Obispo with his wife, Michelle, and their two young daughters.

Sean O’Brien

Offensive Coordinator

Sean O’Brien played high school lacrosse at Northampton, Massachusetts and was named All Western Mass 1st team midfielder in 1984. Sean earned 3 high school sports letters for football (captain), lacrosse and swim/diving teams. He played club lacrosse for two years at Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire before transferring to Cal Poly to play two more seasons.

After graduating from Cal Poly, Sean officiated collegiate lacrosse in the WCLL for 10 years. Coach O’Brien will focus on the midfielders and offense for Cal Poly and is very excited to be associated with this successful program once again, setting a goal to help coach this team to an MCLA national championship title.

Josh Moore

Assistant Coach - Offense

Josh hails from La Mesa, CA, about 15 miles from San Diego, and played his high school lacrosse at Grossmont High School, earning All-League honors his Junior and Senior seasons.

While playing for Cal Poly from 2004-2007, he played a mixture of offensive midfield and attack, playing for two teams who made the national tournament after the 2004 and 2006 seasons.

After graduating with a double major in Economics and Business Administration, he found a job at a local software company, which affords him the luxury of being able to still live in beautiful San Luis Obispo, while pursuing his dream of one day being a world-famous lacrosse coach.

Aaron Myers

Team Consultant and Scouting

Coach Myers is a San Diego native and played lacrosse at University of San Diego High School, where he earned first team All San Diego County as a senior defender. Coach Myers was a four year starter at Cal Poly from 2001-2004, earning Cal Poly rookie of the year in 2001 and defensive MVP in 2003. He was also named three times to the USLIA All-America and WCLL All Star teams. Following his senior year at Cal Poly, Aaron was selected to play on the USA West lacrosse team that competed in the International Friendship games in Japan and China.

After his playing career, Coach Myers served as the defensive coordinator for Cal Poly for the 2005 and 2006 seasons and led the Mustangs to the national quarterfinals in 2006. Coach Myers then served as the Head Coach at Cal Poly for the 2007 & 2008 seasons. Coach Myers also works as an outside salesman for Independent Electric Supply, Inc in Los Angeles and serves as the Vice President of the WCLL.
